Late last year, Rolex unveiled its accessories line, comprised of a range of cufflinks and the best replica Rolex Submariner Date Desk Clock ref. 909010LN watches. In the typical Rolex fashion, the new accessories are conservatively styled; the desk clock is essentially a Submariner face enlarged to 80 mm. But in typical Rolex fashion, the clock is impressively made.
The Submariner desk clock is an impressive piece of desk-bound timekeeping. Execution is top class with flawless fit and finish, while the mechanics (or more accurately, electronics) are advanced: the quartz movement incorporates a 400-year perpetual calendar, and surprisingly, decorative finishing.
Initial thoughts
The top fake Rokex Submariner Desk Clock watches is an impressive object, sizeable, heavy, and clearly well made. It has to be seen – and held – in person to understand the quality of make. Elements like the brushed steel case (that’s ironically not water resistant), engraved bezel insert, and decorated movement speak to the precision manufacturing and finishing. This clock is a beautifully-made industrial creation.
That said, the design is a boring. It’s basically a Submariner face blown up to 80 mm. Fans of the design will be pleased as Rolex did replicate the details of the wristwatch artfully, right down to the engraved flange around the dial and tiny crown within “Swiss made”.
Fortunately, the insides of the clock are more advanced than the design. The cal. 8335 displays the time and date, but the date is actually a secular calendar, which is a perpetual calendar programmed for the next 400 years. So for the following four centuries the clock will take in account the varying length of the months, needing no adjustment. The high-tech nature of the electronics is matched by the high level of decoration, which is industrial but appealing.
The advanced nature of the movement could have made for a much more interesting clock face, which is a missed opportunity. perfect copy Rolex watches, however, is working on more intriguing desk clocks, so the Submariner clock might just be an initial, conservative entry into a new category of product.
If the gravity clock ever makes it into production it will surely be much more expensive than the Submariner clock. At a little over US$10,000, the Submariner clock seems expensive for a quartz desk clock. But considering the build quality and high-tech movement, it is actually a reasonable proposition.
Desk diver
The clock sits in a hemispherical steel case that rests on a ring-shaped mount, allowing for easy adjustment of the clock’s position and orientation.
Despite the inevitable desk diver jokes, the Submariner desk clock is not water resistant – which is logical. It is, however, exceptionally robust in terms of construction. Clad entirely in brushed steel, much like a Submariner wristwatch, the desk clock is hefty. Both the weight and finishing give it a pleasing tactile nature. The clock feels very, very solid in hand.
Though it looks identical to the elapsed time bezel of are buy clone Rolex Submariner watches, but the clock’s bezel is fixed and purely decorative.
The “bezel” replicates the construction of wristwatch bezel; it’s a steel ring with a notched edge that accommodates a ceramic insert. The insert is engraved with markings finished with a matte metallic coating that look very much like the metal plating found on the wristwatch equivalent, though I am not certain they are the same.
Likewise the dial reproduces the Submariner dial with most of the same details; the engraved flange around the dial, for instance, has the serial number engraved at six o’clock, just as on a wristwatch. The dial is lacquered in glossy black, matched with markers and hands filled with white Super-Luminova that glows blue in the dark. The hands are a little chunkier than on the wristwatch, but overall the proportions are a good echo of the original.
The clock dial, however, does away with several lines of text that are found on the UK cheap replica watches. This leaves the dial feeling a little naked, especially since the Submariner dial is so familiar. That said, all of the text that has been removed (relating to Oyster, chronometer and so on) is not relevant to the desk clock.
Unscrew the hemispherical case and the clock can be removed to reveal the movement on the back, allowing for setting of the time and date. The precise machining of the case is evident in the precise, easy fit of the clock and case.
A large crown on the back can be pulled out to set the time in a straightforward fashion. Setting the calendar, on the other hand, starts with the digital display on the back that has to be switched on by pressing either of the two buttons that flank the screen. The display shows the full calendar in DD/MM/YYYY format, which can then be set via the two buttons.
In a clever twist, the date is actually adjustable just like a GMT-Master II. The hour hand can be moved forward or backwards independently to set the date when crossing time zones. Each time the hour hand passes 12 o’clock, the date moves correspondingly in sync in either direction, just like on a GMT-Master II wristwatch.
The last feature of the movement is a battery end-of-life indicator. When the batteries are running low, the seconds hand will move in four second steps, indicating the batteries should be replaced within two months. The clock uses two CR2477 batteries, which are commonly available. Replacing the batteries, however, requires a little work with a screwdriver and deft hands, so AAA Rolex fake watches recommends the clock is returned to the service centre for battery replacement.
The finishing of the movement is notable in itself. The striping, graining, and engraving are all clean and finely applied. Even the screw heads reveal chamfered edges. Attention was clearly paid to the details, which is not usually the case for electronic desk clocks.
